OUT OF AFRICA -- A Scenario for the NACV Battleset

RATIONALE: Prior to the outbreak of war, the USSR sent a powerful surface
group on a "good-will" visit to several West African port cities. The
Soviets knew that after the fighting began, it would be very difficult to
get their surface forces into the Atlantic through the heavy NATO screens
in the Norwegian Sea. Now this SAG is sailing north, hoping to break out
into the Atlantic off of Portugal or Spain to wreak havoc among the NATO
convoys. Supporting the SAG is an Oscar-class SSGN, sailing to block the
Straits of Gibraltar and interdict NATO shipping there.

NATO ORDERS: You must not allow the Soviets to get their big guns into
position to interfere with NATO convoys. To win, you must sink either the
Kalinin or the Oscar-class sub. Sink them both and you win big. You will
have to rely on the French and Spanish for your surface support, as there
are no USN ships in the vicinity. Your main weapons will be your aircraft,
especially the Marine air units that happen to be at Rota on their way to
the Med. The Super Entendards on the French carrier can be a big help, but
watch out that the Soviets don't ambush your task forces and destroy them.

SOVIET ORDERS:	Your mission is simple: cause trouble.	You can win in many
ways:  1) Get the Kalinin to its hunting grounds off the NW coast of Spain;
2) Get the Oscar to the mouth of the Straits; 3) Sink 8 NATO warships; 4)
Use your Forgers to inflict 50% damage on Rota.	If you manage to get both
units to their respective deployment areas, and sink enough ships, you will
win a total victory and a (probably posthumous) Order of Lenin.	You will
have no air support, except your Forgers, but no USN ships are known to be
in the area.	Your opponents will likely be French and Spanish, with the
possibility of a USN submarine as well.
